Joe Burger passed away suddenly. Joe was my oldest collaborator.
We worked together for over half of a century.
On a personal level, he participated
both in my Nobel Prize ceremony and my marriage.
He worked with me at the DESY-PETRA experiment Mark-J
leading to the discovery of electroweak interference and gluons.
At the L3 experiment at CERN,
he was in charge of the assembly of the detector and managing the collaboration.
The L3 experiment provided precision tests of Electroweak theory.
On the AMS-01 experiment, he was again in charge of detector assembly.
On the AMS-02 experiment, Joe was responsible for leading the thermal system as well as significant contributions to the TRD system. The results from AMS-02 have changed our understanding of cosmic ray physics.
I share with you a few selected photos of Joe with me as well as his work in physics. Joe was a religious person. May his memory be a blessing.
